A project web may be characterised as a "one-for-all" information
exchange. That is to say, this system gives project participants a
straightforward and rapid means of distributing their work to team members
by transferring digital information to the project web.
Use of the system enables a significant reduction in heavy document flows,
since the various types of documents are stored digitally on an Internet
server. Project participants can upload or download drawings, specifications,
minutes of meetings and more to/from ProjectWEB, as and when required.
The real benefit of using ProjectWEB is that it facilitates communication
between team members, while requiring only Internet access and an Internet
browser for users to obtain the latest revisions to the various project
data. This applies no matter where team members are physically located
.
How ProjectWEB works
ProjectWEB is based on the Internet, it uses the Internet as the
connection between the user's PC and a central Internet server, where all
access to documents is controlled by Logon, requiring input of the
company ID, user ID and password. This is an element of the security
essential to this type of system.
As the basic, all parties to the project will have access to view, print
and download all documents on ProjectWEB. Users can view the content of
documents directly using their own applications, and can download documents
from ProjectWEB to their own network or PC.
ProjectWEB integrates with the advanced AutoVue viewing software from
Oracle. AutoVue can display, print or plot several hundred different file
formats, including files from Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD
and MicroStation along with various scanning formats. The viewer also
features facilities for redlining, compare and collaboration.
The system includes an effective Log function, providing a full
historical record of every single document uploaded to ProjectWEB. For
example, by whom and when a given drawing was printed/plotted, and by whom
and when a given revision was deleted/moved or updated and so forth.
The ProjectWEB interface is similar to Microsoft's Windows Explorer,
which means that all Microsoft Windows users will be capable of using
ProjectWEB immediately.
The potential uses for ProjectWEB are numerous. From serving in
small-scale projects exclusively as a central document repository, to use as
a project management support system in large-scale
construction projects.
The Ramboll ProjectWEB can be employed in all building and construction
projects, from design to delivery, but can also be used by the client during
the subsequent operational phase. Use of The Ramboll ProjectWEB from start
to end in your project, results in compilation of a complete project
database which can be transferred to the client immediately upon completion.
